Emotional status of people is connected with mediator system’ function and especially serotonin. First mention about serotonin is concerned to the XIXth century. Serotonin is 5-hydroxytriptaminum is formed from aminoacid triptiphanum. Its intermediant is 5-hydroxytryptophanum. It has 7 types of serotoninergic receptors some of them has subtypes. Activation of its receptors is connected with other mediator system - glutamate, dopamine, GABA. Most types of receptors are metabolititropic only 5-HT3 receptors are ionotropic. Srotoninergic system plays the important role in central nervous system activity. The changes of serotonin level in blood are conjugated with the damages of behavior, with depression, schizophrenia, suicides, alcoholism, migrene. Analgetic action of serotonin is connected with endogenous opiates, it can liberate beta-endorphines from the anterior hypophysis cells. Insomnia is connected with serotonin dismetabolism. The triptones are the new class of drugs for migrene treatment. Serotoninergic system regulates immunogenesis and allergic reactions. Serotonin plays the important role in the blood coagulation. Serotonin increases thrombocytes functional activity. Serotonin is necessary for motility and secretion of stomach and intestines. By means of serotoninergic mechanisms the vessels’ tonus is regulated. The adverse effects may be connected with serotonin system also. Serotonin syndrome may be appeared after antidepressants’ use, especially after combination of drugs with the different mechanisms of action. It can be manifested as the nervous system, gastric intestines system, rine system. Last years in the European countries and USA the precursor of serotonin as 5-hydroxytryptophanum is used as biological addition. It is contained with Griffonia seeds. It is used in mono- and complex pharmacotherapy to increase adaptation, to improve sleeping, to remove depression. It may be recommended in menopausae for cardiovascular system diseases prophelaxis, in insomnia, asteno-depressive syndrome.
