Особливостi функціювання англіцизмів у сучасному українському медіадискурсі

Abstract

У статті з’ясовано проблему запозичення англійської лексики на матеріалі сучасного українського медіадискурсу. Розкрито поняття англіцизму, представлено його типологію, проаналізовано причини входження запозичень з англійської мови до сучасного медіадискурсу. Розглянуто основні тематичні групи англіцизмів, які побутують в українських ЗМІ, зокрема ті, що номінують предмети повсякденного вжитку, комп’ютерні технології, людей за різними ономасіологічними властивостями, емоції, реалії культурної та спортивної сфери. Схарактеризовано особливості функціювання англіцизмів на лексико-семантичному, словотвірному й прагматичному рівнях. Доведено, що регулярною для запозичень у медіадискурсі є неусталеність граматичних форм та семантичного обсягу понять, спричинена неповнотою засвоєності англіцизму мовою-реципієнтом.

The article deals with linguistic features of English borrowings in Ukrainian media discourse and the way English units enter the Ukrainian language through the contemporary media. The subject of research is semantical, derivational, and pragmatic peculiarities of using English borrowings in modern Ukrainian media. The usage of English borrowings is very common for Ukrainian mass media. It is objectified by the authors' intent to sound modern when describing the phenomena of the contemporary world. Sometimes using a word of English origin serves the purpose of being succinct and on point due to the lack of a single Ukrainian word naming a particular phenomenon. English borrowings have a set of specific semantical, grammatical, and pragmatic features. Semantically, most of them interact with the units of the recipient language (they tend to have synonyms, wide notional scope, etc.). The scope of lexical fields covered by English borrowings in Ukrainian mass media is quite wide. Topically, it encompasses physical objects, computer technology, emotions, people-related nominations, emotive words, cultural phenomena, and sports as well as other semantic domains. English borrowings can have different levels of adaptation: while some of them have been fully adapted by Ukrainian as the recipient language, others still remain more or less unchanged. This creates a set of problems that deal with how English borrowings function grammatically in the text and whether or not they take on Ukrainian derivational elements. Grammatically and derivationally, the usage of many English borrowings is inconsistent and sometimes has multiple variations which create significant inconveniences for some speakers. Pragmatically, English borrowings are used by authors of media texts in order to draw recipients’ attention due to their high stylistic expressiveness. This is connected with the fact that some English lexemes are emotionally charged and can easily stand out when used among regular Ukrainian lexical units. Further studies of English borrowings in the Ukrainian language will involve the in-depth analysis of the way these units function on phonetic, derivational, morphological, lexical, and syntactic levels within media discourse as well as other fields.
