Деякі питання функціонування медичних епонімів

Abstract

Дослідження виконано на стику термінознавства, історії Стародавнього Риму, історії медицини й медичної етики та передусім спрямоване на формування в майбутніх лікарів, а також іншого кола зацікавлених осіб інтересу до фахової термінології і залучення їх до міждисциплінарних розвідок. Розглянуто дискутивні питання, пов’язані з використанням епонімів у мові медицини: наявність хибно орієнтуючих акронімів; етична доцільність використання термінів-епонімів із прізвищами вчених, які співпрацювали з нацистами, а також представників наукової спільноти, що поділяли й пропагували євгенічні ідеї; можливі комунікативні труднощі, пов’язані з використанням національних варіантів епонімічних термінів. Значну увагу приділено історії виникнення терміна «кесарів розтин». У висновках зазначається, що медичні епоніми – це невід’ємна складова мови медицини, в якій знайшли своє відображення різні етапи пізнання дійсності, історичні умови та відомості про тих людей, які сприяли розвиткові медичної науки.

The study was performed at the intersection of terminology, history of ancient Rome, history of medicine and medical ethics and primarily aimed at forming future doctors, as well as other stakeholders interested in professional terminology and involving them in interdisciplinary research. Discussative issues related to the use of eponyms in the language of medicine are considered: the presence of misdirected acronyms; the ethical expediency of using eponymous terms with the names of scientists who collaborated with the Nazis, as well as members of the scientific community who shared and promoted eugenic ideas; possible communication difficulties associated with the use of national variants of eponymous terms. Considerable attention is paid to the history of the term "caesarean section". The conclusions state that medical eponymous terms are an integral part of the language of medicine, which reflects the various stages of knowledge of reality, historical conditions and information about those people who contributed to the development of medical science.
