Конверсія як продуктивний засіб словотворення у субмові медицини (на матеріалі англійської медичної термінології)

Abstract

Дане дослідження присвячено аналізу конверсії як продуктивного засобу словотворення сучасної англійської мови. Основну увагу приділено видам та різновидам конверсії, а також продуктивним словотвірним моделям; Данное исследование посвящено анализу конверсии как продуктивного средства словообразования современного английского языка. Основное внимание уделено видам и разновидностям конверсии, а также продуктивным словообразовательным моделям; In linguistics, conversion is frequently called zero derivation. It is the creation of a word from an existing word without any change in form. Conversion is more productive in some languages than in others; but in English, it is a really productive process. Conversion can be characterized by the next categories as: the semantic dependence, the range of usage, the semantic range and the phonetic shape. There are several types of conversion such as lexical conversion, grammatical and derived one. The aim of the article is to analyze and investigate peculiarities of new word formation by conversion. Materials and methods. It was used theoretical and practical basis of given results. There were used modern articles, textbooks and medical dictionaries which will help to find out the most productive ways of new words formation. Noun, adjective, verb stems were taken in order to get new word due conversion. Results. This linguistic question showed such productive results: conversion can be from verb to noun, from noun to verb, from adjective to verb, conversion from adjective to noun, conversion from adjectives to adverbs. The most productive word forming models of conversion are the following: V. – N. (to moan – a moan, to fracture –a fracture), N. – V. (an eye – to eye, a puncture – to puncture), Adj.- N. (hollow adj. – hollow n.). Conclusions. Lexical component of the language is an active process in the development of lexis of English. Lexical component of the English language is enriched by new words formation. Conversion is the most productive way of new words formation in modern English especially in medical terminology. This productive way of new words formation is important and necessary in order to renew semantic, lexical and grammatical meanings of each word.
