The use of Latin in Prescription Writing: Linguo-didactic Aspects in Teaching Medical English

Abstract

The article examines the role of Latin terminology in the English sub-language of medicine. The authors emphasize the necessity to pay due attention to terminological abbreviations when developing didactic materials at medical universities. The suggested cycle of training tasks is aimed at improving lexical, word-formation and orthographic knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as enriching the vocabulary of medical students. The methodical algorithm for the proposed cycle of tasks has been substantiated: learning the lexical material, control of the level of mastering the lexis, creating didactic conditions for correction and propedeutics of errors; У статті досліджується роль латинської термінології у субмові медицини англійської мови. Автори наголошують на важливості вивчення термінологічних абревіацій і пропонують цикл навчальних вправ, спрямований на вдосконалення лексичних, словотворчих і орфографічних знань, умінь і навичок, а також розширення і збагачення словникового запасу студентів-медиків. Обґрунтовано методичний алгоритм для пропонованого циклу завдань: закріплення лексичного матеріалу, контроль засвоєння лексики, створення дидактичних умов для корекції і пропедевтики мовних помилок.
