Materials and Methods: A comparative study was conducted among 608 pupils of secondary schools in Kremenchuk, who consumed drinking water with fluoride concentrations in the lower limits of the norm, and 1214 pupils of secondary schools in Poltava, who consumed drinking water with fluoride concentrations in the optimal upper limits of the norm. Results: The rates of caries in permanent teeth in children living in a region with fluoride concentrations in drinking water in the optimal-upper normal range are several times lower than in children of the same age living in a region with fluoride concentrations in drinking water in the lower normal range, and a significant increase in the prevalence and intensity of caries is observed from 7 to 9 to 12 years of age, as teeth after eruption are most vulnerable to caries. In a region where the fluoride concentration in drinking water is in the optimal-upper range of the norm, children with early forms of fluorosis have the lowest prevalence and intensity of caries. Conclusions: Endemic features of the region directly affect the prevalence and intensity of the caries process. In regions with a fluoride concentration in drinking water within the optimal upper limits of the norm, prevention of caries in permanent teeth in children should be carried out taking into account the presence of fluorosis. Assessment of attitudes and practices regarding oral healthcare among the parents during the war(Journal of International Dental and Medical Research, 2024-04-01) Yanko, N. V.; Kaskova, L. F.; Vashchenko, I. Yu.; Novikova, S. Ch.; Sadivski, M. O.; Pavlenkova, O. S.; Ulasevich, L. P.; This study aimed to assess parents' attitudes and practices concerning their children's oral healthcare, dietary habits, and dental care during the war. The study was conducted with a sample of 375 parents of children aged 4-7 years selected randomly from public schools, kindergartens, and the pediatric public dental clinic after obtaining informed consent. A questionnaire was used to assess the attitudes and practices of parents toward their child's dietary habits, oral hygiene measures, and dental information during the war. Most of the parents had satisfactory knowledge and positive attitudes regarding their children's oral health. The internally displaced children experienced more dental problems (P= .02) and consumed more food (P= .008) than the local population. The parents with university education and professional occupations were more involved in supervising their children tooth brushing (P= .0001). 57.07% of children brush their teeth once a day. 47.47% of parents supervised their child's oral hygiene, and 47.73% needed more time to implement additional oral hygiene measures. The surveyed Ukrainian parents displayed satisfactory attitudes and practices towards oral health, but they lack awareness of their children`s oral hygiene measures, which could be related to the inconveniences faced both by parents and children during wartime. Change indicators of caries of temporary teeth, taking into account their odontoglyphics and method of prevention carried out(Полтавський державний медичний університет, 2023) Kaskova, L. F.; Sadovski, M. O.; Каськова, Людмила Федорівна; Садовські, Марина ОлександрівнаAccording to WHO estimates, dental caries is the most common oral cavity disease. In Europe, from 20 to 90% of children aged six years have dental caries, so its prevention is the most important task of modern pediatric dentistry. Systemic and topical application of fluorides has been recognized as a significant factor responsible for the decline in caries prevalence in recent decades. Numerous scientific studies have proven that sealing molar fissures and deep fluoridation have an undeniable caries-preventive effect. Our study aimed to study the impact of sealing fissures of temporary molars on caries indicators, taking into account their odontoglyphics of the occlusal surface as a risk factor for caries. Sixty children aged 3 to 5 were under our observation for two years and were divided into three groups according to the preventive measures taken. The effectiveness of various prevention methods was established during the examination of the comparison groups. For each molar of the maxilla and mandible, its belonging to a particular chewing surface was determined. In all studied groups, there were children with different patterns of the occlusal surface, the distribution of which did not have a significant difference when comparing the observation groups. The implementation of preventive measures in children of different observation groups proved that the most effective method of preventing caries of temporary molars is sealing, which makes it possible to isolate the tooth from the action of external factors and promote the mineralization of its hard tissues under the influence of fluorides, which diffuses from glass ionomer cement. Changes in indices of chemical composition and mineralizing properties of oral fluid in children with intestinal dysbiosis(Українська медична стоматологічна академія, 2020) Kaskova, L. F.; Novikova, S. C.; Anopriyeva, N. M.; Akzhitova, A. A.; The purpose of our work was to study the indices of calcium, inorganic phosphorus and mineralizing properties of oral fluid in 2-3 year-old children with intestinal dysbiosis. The results obtained allowed us to conclude that in the oral fluid of 2-3 years old children with intestinal dysbiosis there was a decrease in the content of calcium and inorganic phosphorus compared to similar indicators in healthy children. Thus, the rate of ionized calcium in the oral fluid was 0.23±0.01 mmol/l, which is 1.6 times less than the corresponding indice in children of the control group (0.37±0.02 mmol/l). The content of inorganic phosphorus in the oral fluid in children with intestinal dysbiosis was 4.38±0.03 mmol/l, and in somatically healthy children it was 4.66±0.03 mmol/l, which is correspondingly lower by 0.28 mmol/l. They also showed a decrease in the mineralizing potential of the oral fluid, which indicates the tendency of the erupted teeth to the enamel demineralization and increasing the prevalence of dental caries. The distribution of children by the level of mineralizing potential indicated that only 6.6% of children with intestinal dysbiosis have a high rate, which is more than 2 times worse than in the control group. The cooperation of a dentist and a pediatrician is necessary for the timely detection and prevention of dysbiosis emergence in children and, as a consequence, dental pathology – dental caries. Comparative characteristics of dental caries indices in children at the first period of changeable occlusion(Budapest, Hungary, 2018) Мандзюк, Тетяна Богданівна; Mandziuk, Т. Caries is the most common dental disease originating from the ancient past and nowadays it is a considerable issue of pediatric dentistry (1,2). The WHO estimates approximately 15% of children in their second year of life are already afflicted with dental caries. This indicator increases with age and in the period of changeable occlusion it can reach 90% depending on the territory where children reside (3,4,5,6,7). Investigation of caries indicators in children during the period of changeable occlusion is an important issue since eruption of the first permanent molars occurs, which are poorly mineralized, and have a specific relief of the masticatory surface (8). At this period of age children are often ill and do not thoroughly take care of their oral cavities (9,10,12). Dynamics of oral hygiene indicators and salivity rate in children who frequently have acute respiratory and viral infections(Полтавський державний медичний університет, 2021) Pavlenkova, O. S.; Kaskova, L. F.; Павленкова, Оксана Сергіївна; Каськова, Людмила ФедорівнаBefore preventive interventions, the hygienic state in children, often ill, was unsatisfactory and ranged from 2.28±0.23– 2.29±0.12 points. A month after the appointment of preventive measures, this indicator improved to satisfactory in children of group 3 and to good in group 4 (who were assigned professional hygiene twice a year, individual hygiene using calcium paste, the use of calcium supplements and those that increase the body's protective properties and amounted to 1.68±0.06 points and 1.5±0.05 points, respectively. 6 months after the first survey, oral hygiene worsened in all children relative to the second survey, but it was better than to take preventive measures. The same picture was observed when determining the hygiene index according to the Green–Vermilion. There is a tendency to improve the rate of salivation after preventive measures. Effect of pH and mineralizing properties of the oral fluid on enamel acid resistance in children(Полтавський державний медичний університет, 2019-01) Kaskova, L. F.; Mandziuk, T. B.; Godovanets, O. I.; Ulasevych, L. P.; Kuzniak, N. B.; Каськова, Людмила Федорівна; Мандзюк, Тетяна Богданівна; Уласевич, Лариса Павлівна; Кузняк, Наталія Богданівна; Годованець, Оксана ІванівнаThe present study was aimed to investigate the indices of рН, microcrystallization of the oral fluid in 7-9-year-old children with caries and without it, and possibility of occurrence of carious lesions with further use of the obtained results concerning the necessity to initiate preventive measures. The course of caries in 7-9-year-old children occurs against the ground of decrease of pH and saliva microcrystallization indices, and it is caused by reduced dental resistance to caries which is evidenced by the results of examination of the enamel acid resistance according to the enamel resistance test. The analysis of the obtained results demonstrated existence of a reverse correlation in 7-9-year-old children with caries between the index of enamel acid resistance and mineralizing potential (r= 0.73 – strong index) and рН (r= 0.66 – reverse considerable) of the oral fluid. These children presented direct strong connection between pH index and saliva mineralizing potential (r= 0.79). The results obtained promote the necessity to perform primary and secondary prevention directed to the improvement of homeostasis indices in the oral cavity which will enable to decrease prevalence and intensity of caries in children. Effect of the therapeutic-preventive complex on рн and oral fluid mineralizing potential in children examined with chronic catarrhal gingivitis and diabetes mellitus(Полтавський державний медичний університет, 2022) Kaskova, L. F.; Honcharenko, V. А.; Каськова, Людмила Федорівна; Гончаренко, Валентина АнатоліївнаObjective of the research was to study рН and oral fluid mineralizing potential of the children examined with chronic catarrhal gingivitis and diabetes mellitus after administration of our therapeuticpreventive complex suggested including oral complex preparation “Quertulin”, drops “IMUPRET”, polyvitamins “Pikovit” and local irrigation of the oral cavity with the solution of the mouthwash “Exodent”. Administration of our therapeutic-preventive complex produced a positive effect on the oral cavity homeostasis and made it possible to improve the indices examined and maintain them on an appropriate level during 6 months. Enamel resistance of temporary teeth in children 3-6 years old and influence of oral fluids on it(Полтавський державний медичний університет, 2022) Kaskova, L. F.; Sadovski, M. O.; Каськова, Людмила Федорівна; Садовські, Марина ОлександрівнаThe study of the biophysical parameters of oral fluid in children is essential in predicting the occurrence of caries and developing effective prevention programs. The properties of the oral fluid determine the resistance of enamel to caries. This study aimed to determine the indicators of oral fluid in children aged 3-6 years (hydrogen index (pH), mineralizing potential of oral fluid) and their effect on the acid resistance of enamel, taking into account the dental status. The mineralizing properties of the oral fluid are due to the acid-alkaline balance. The examination results showed that enamel resistance decreases in children with a significant number of teeth affected by caries. The studied indicators always had the worst values in children with a decompensated degree of caries activity, regardless of age, which determines the presence of a cariogenic situation in the oral cavity of these children, which contributes to a further decrease in enamel resistance and the possibility of caries. Considering the multifactorial nature of the etiology of caries, it is necessary to continue the study of the relationship between the occurrence of caries in children, the influence of oral fluid, and the morphological features of the chewing surface. Frequency of dental caries in children in the Early Iron Age and the Medieval populations from Ukraine(De Gruyter Open, 2017-12-20) Yanko, N. V.; Artemyev, A. V.; Kaskova, L. F.; In this paper we determine the caries frequency in children of the Early Iron Age (EIA) (the 9th - the 3d centuries BC) and the Medieval populations (the 8th - the beginning of the 15th century AD) from the Ukraine area, and compare the results with the data from several European populations who lived at the same time. The EIA is presented by 41 children skeletons, three of which were Cimmerian (the 9th - the 7th centuries BC) from the territory of contemporary Poltava region; 38 skulls from the territory of contemporary Poltava region and Crimea represented Scythian period (the 7th - the 3d centuries BC). Remains of 24 children from the Medieval populations were also examined, three of which were the ancient Hungarians from the Poltava region (the 8th - the 9th centuries AD), 6 Khazars from the Kharkiv region (the 8th - the 9th centuries), 1 child related the Old Rus culture from the Kyiv region (the 9th century), and 14 representatives of the nomadic populations in the Golden Horde period (the 13th - the beginning of the 15th century) from the Poltava and Zaporizhzhya regions. Taking in consideration the letter archaeobotanical studies we suggest that there were no major changes in the plants exploited during all the studied periods. The frequency of carious lesions in children from the Medieval populations (8.3% in individuals, 0.5% in deciduous teeth, and 0.4% in permanent teeth) is only slightly higher than those from the EIA period (2.4% in individuals and 0.2% in deciduous teeth). These indexes were not larger those of majority of European populations dated to the same historic period. Further isotopic, chemical and palaeobotanical studies of the additional sites, with sufficient sample sizes, allow us to learn so much more of the cariogenic factors in children of the past populations from the Ukraine area. Gingival health in children in the different phases of acute lymphoblastic leukemia(Sciendo, 2019-10-01) Kaskova, L. F.; Yanko, N. V.; Vahschenko, I. Yu.; Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the most common type of leukemia in children, has diverse oral cavity complications. While periodontal alterations in such patients are widely known, there were no studies evaluating gingival health from the time of diagnosis to the remission phase. In our study, we, therefore, analysed the frequency of periodontal diseases and the gingival indices in the different phases of ALL in children. Children aged 7-15 years were involved into the cross-sectional study. Therein, 160 children with ALL were divided into three groups: L1 – 50 children examined before the initiation phase, L2 – 50 children examined after 1 month of the chemotherapy, L3 – 60 children examined in permanent hematologic remission. The control (HC) included 150 healthy children. The L1, L2 and L3 groups had significantly worse gingival indices and frequency of gingivitis than the HC group (p < 0.0001). Frequency of gingivitis increased from before the initiation to the remission phase, but significantly only in 7-11 year-old children (p = 0.0004). Gingival indices increased after 1 month of chemotherapy (p < 0.0001), but decreased in the permanent remission phase (p < 0.0001). Our study stresses the need for children with ALL to not only require prevention courses before the initiation and during the chemotherapy phases, but also in the permanent remission phase to minimize the long-term impact of leukemia treatment on gingival health. Influence of the treatment and preventive measures on the physical indicators of oral liquid in children with chronic catarrhic gingivitis and diabetes mellitus(Полтавський державний медичний університет, 2021) Каськова, Людмила Федорівна; Гончаренко, Валентина Анатоліївна; Kaskova, L. F.; Honcharenko, V. A.Influence of the treatment and preventive measures on the physical indicators of oral liquid in children with chronic catarrhic gingivitis and diabetes mellitus The aim of our study was to find out the effect of our proposed treatment and prevention complex, which included oral administration of «Kvertulin» complex drug, «Imupret» drops, «Pikovit» multivitamin drug and «Exodent» local irrigation of the oral cavity with a solution of tooth elixir that influence on the rate of salivation and viscosity of oral fluid in children with chronic catarrhal gingivitis and diabetes mellitus. The treatment and prophylactic measures had positive effect on the homeostasis of the oral cavity, which assisted to reduce the viscosity of the oral fluid, increase the rate of salivation, as evidenced by observation of patients for 6 months. The treatment and prevention complex are recommended to use 2 times a year, as the studied indicators deteriorate over time. Methods for temporary teeth restoring in preschool children(Полтавський державний медичний університет, 2023) Berezhnaya, O. E.; Kaskova, L. F.; Lazareva, K. A.; Бережна, Олена Едуардівна; Каськова, Людмила Федорівна; Лазарєва, Ксенія АнатоліївнаTemporary incisors and molars destroyed by caries and their complications need restoration from the point of view of their performance of functions and aesthetics. In children's dentistry, there is a wide range of different methods that are successfully used. The purpose of the study was to study the possibilities of using different restoration methods of the crown of temporary teeth in children, to determine their advantages and to provide recommendations for their use. Treatment was carried out for children aged 2-6 years with a temporary bite with the pathology of the hard tissues of the teeth under general anaesthesia. To restore destroyed teeth, the method of restoration with composite materials was used (63% of cases), and restoration using standard crowns of various types (37% of cases). Observation of children for two years showed positive results and made it possible to save temporary teeth. In addition to composite filling materials, which are most often used to restore tooth crowns in pediatric dentistry, standard crowns are widely used: steel crowns made of stainless steel, steel crowns with plastic lining, and crowns made of zirconium dioxide framework. Each of them has its indications. They make it possible to hermetically close the defect of the temporary tooth's hard tissues, restore the crown part's anatomical shape and chewing efficiency, and prevent the fracture of the remaining walls of the tooth crown. During using crowns, the fixing glass ionomer cement remineralizes the hard tissues due to the release of fluorides. It is possible to combine the use of different methods in one child. In children's therapeutic dentistry, there is a significant range of possibilities for restoring temporary teeth, which have their indications and contraindications, which must be considered in each specific case. All the methods we used showed positive results and allowed the saving of temporary teeth during the observation period. Methods of preparation of students to summative assessment(Тернопільський державний медичний університет, 2016) Kaskova, L. Мета статті - порівняти фактори мотивації обрати стоматологію як кар’єру у вітчизняних та іноземних студентів українського університету. Oral hygiene in children with chronic catarrhal gingivitis during mixed dentition(Полтавський державний медичний університет, 2021) Novikova, S. C.; Kaskova, L. F.; Yanko, N. V.; Khmil, O. V.; Ulasevich, L. P.; Новікова, Світлана Чеславна; Каськова, Людмила Федорівна; Янко, Наталія Валентинівна; Хміль, Олена Всеволодівна; Уласевич, Лариса ПавлівнаChronic catarrhal gingivitis is the most common periodontal disease in children and adolescents. The aim of the study is assessment of oral hygiene state in children 7-10 years with chronic catarrhal gingivitis. Aim of the study is assessment of oral hygiene state in 7-10-year-old children with chronic catarrhal gingivitis. The analysis of the obtained results of oral hygiene state in 7-10-year-old children old with chronic catarrhal gingivitis (CCG) according to the Fedorov-Volodkina index showed their probable difference from the indicators of children with a healthy periodontium in all age groups. The worst average oral hygiene was found in children 10 years of age with CCG, which was 2.01±0.1 points and corresponded to poor hygiene and almost twice worse than in children with a healthy periodontium of the same age group, which was 1, 17±0.01 points. The best indicator of hygiene was in children 7 years 1.66±0.03 points, which corresponds to a satisfactory oral hygiene. At children of 8, 9 years values of a hygienic index are significantly worse, than at children of 7 years (p<0,001). When determining the indicators of the hygiene index Rustogi found that regardless of age, the state of oral hygiene in children with CCG is always worse than in healthy children. The worst values of hygiene in children with CCG were in 10 years and were equal to – 7.18±0.02 points (2.39±0.02 points in healthy children). The lowest values of the hygiene index were in children of 7 years old – 6.33±0.03 points – plaque covers the crown of the tooth in children with CCG by more than 30%. In healthy children of the same age group the indicator was 2.11±0.01 points. Thus, the definition of the Rustogi hygiene index confirms that oral hygiene deteriorates in children with age and is always worse in children with chronic catarrhal gingivitis. In children 7-8 years with CCG, the values of the index were almost the same. At the age of 8 to 9 years there is a deterioration in oral hygiene index by 0.29 points, and from 9 to 10 years by 0.55 points, which is one of the important factors contributing to the deterioration of periodontal tissues in children of these age groups. In order to prevent the development of periodontal diseases in children, there is a need to develop a set of individual preventive measures that will further prevent the deterioration of oral hygiene indicators and other components of oral homeostasis. Periodontal disease and salivary oxidative stress in children with lymphogranulomatosis(Aluna, 2023-07-30) Yanko, N. V.; Kaskova, L. F.; Vashchenko, I. Yu.; Novikova, S. Ch.; The aim: To investigate the impact of lymphogranulomatosis (LGM) and periodontal disease on salivary lipid peroxidation and enzymatic antioxidants` levels in children. Materials and methods: 45 children aged 6–16 years with LGM were examined before hematologic therapy (group LGM 1), after therapy (group LGM 2), and at the remission (group LGM 3). The control group included 70 healthy children. Periodontal state of children, saliva thiobarbituric acid reacting substances (TBARS), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase were examined. Results: 6-11 years old children from LGM 1 group showed a higher frequency of periodontal disease (50,0%), as well as 12-15 year olds (80,8%) compared to healthy children (17,4% and 42,8% accordingly, p<0,05). TBARS levels were higher in LGM 1-3 groups of children with periodontal disease (9,79, 12,3 and 12,6 umol/l, р<0,01) compared to counterparts without it (8,01, 10,1 and 11,6 umol/l, р<0,01) and healthy children with periodontal disease (7,9 umol/l, р<0,01). SOD activity was higher in LGM 1-3 groups of children with periodontal disease (-0,075, -0,086, -0,074 units) compared to children without it (-0,048, -0,059, -0,04 units, р<0,01) and healthy children with periodontal disease (-0,04 units, р<0,01). Catalase activity was lower in LGM 1-3 groups of children with periodontal disease (6,72, 5,2 and 6,7 units) compared to counterparts without it (7,3, 3,7 and 4,7 units, р<0,01) and healthy children with periodontal disease (7,1 units, р<0,01). Conclusions: Children with periodontal disease related to LGM had higher TBARS levels, SOD activity and lower catalase activity in saliva. Both LGM and periodontal disease altered lipid peroxidation and antioxidant protection in saliva of children.Документ Periodontal diseases in children(Видавництво "Астрая", 2020-06-11) Kaskova, L.
