Сучасне розуміння механізмів дії ромашкий календули, особливо впливу на синтез простагландинів, цитокіновий профіль, метаболізм сполучної тканини та оксидантно-прооксидантну рівновагу, відкриває перспективи для розширення показань до застосування та створення нових лікарських форм з використанням біологічно активних компонентів цих рослин. Статья представляет обзор литературы, который показывает, что среди лекарственных растений, которые имеют свойства, полезные для местного применения в терапевтической стоматологии, по масштабности экспериментальных и клинических исследований лидируют такие растения, как ромашка и календула. Современное понимание механизмов действия ромашки и календулы, особенно влияния на синтез простагландинов, цитокиновый профиль, метаболізм соединительной ткани и оксидантно-прооксидантное равновесие, открывает перспективы для расширения показа- ний к применению и созданию нових лекарственных форм с использованием биологически активних компонентов этих растений. The article presents a review of iterature that shows that among the medicinal herbs having properties that are useful for topical applying in dental practice, on the scale of experimental and clinical researches, chamomile (Chamomilla recutita) and calendula (Calendula officinalis L.) are at the leading position. Chemical nature of biologically active substances from these herbs is described in correlation with their pharmacological properties. It is shown that both chamomile and marigold display anti-inflammatory, wound-healing, antimicrobial, and antioxidant effects. Selective inhibition of cyclooxygenase 2 is the main mechanism of their anti-inflammatory action. Topical use of these herbs extracts promotes the improvement of regeneration in the cases of wounds or burns that accompanies with stimulation of re-epithelisation and enhanced concentration of hydroxyproline, hexosamine and collagen. Reduced level of lipid peroxidation in tissues is registered under the treatment. Beside mentioned effects, both chamomile and calendula extracts have in vitro cytotoxicity effect against human cancer cells, and calendula anti-proliferation activity is more selective that seen at chamomile extract administration. It is indicated that some resorbtive effects of the given herbs such as chamomile’s anxiolytic action also meets the demands of combined therapy of the inflammatory processes in the oral cavity. The data obtained from the experimental researches are illustrated by the examples of clinical use of chamomile and calendula extracts in different lesions of mucous membranes and skin (oral aphthae, mucositis, cheilitis, Radiation dermatitis etc). The efficacy of these remedies (as aqueous and alcohol extracts, ointments, creams, or gels) is analyzed from the point of view of evidence-based medicine. Thus, modern understanding of the mechanisms of action of chamomile and calendula, especially its influence on prostaglandin synthesis, cytokine profile, connective tissue metabolism and oxidant-prooxidant balance, opens new prospects for the creation of new medicinal forms using biologically active components of these herbs.ukромашкакалендуламеханізм діїромашкакалендуламеханизм действияchamomilecalendulamechanism of actionArticle
