A stylistic analysis of medical article titles focused on the war in Ukraine. The Medical and Ecological Problems.
(Полтавський державний медичний університет, 2023) Lysanets, Yu.; Mihăilă, R.; Botezat, O.; Bieliaieva, O.; Лисанець, Юлія Валеріївна; Міхаїла, Р.; Ботезат, О.; Бєляєва, Олена Миколаївна
The paper examines the rhetorical devices used in the metadata of medical research publications focused on the health implications of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The aim of the study is to analyse the stylistic means in article titles, through which the scientists aspire to convey their message to the audience, attract the readers’ attention, persuade and stimulate them to take specific actions. We selected 697 research papers from the PubMed database, published since 24 February 2022, using relevant search terms (“Ukraine”, “war”, “impacts”, and “health”), and examined them by applying the methods of stylistic, structural, and contextual analysis. The study detected 17 stylistic techniques (alliteration and assonance, allusion, anaphora, antithesis, ellipsis, idiom, metaphor, oxymoron, parallelism, paronomasia, periphrasis, personification, repetition, rhetorical questions, ecphonesis, and rhyming titles) that are used to highlight the numerous detrimental impacts of the war. The authors emphasize that analysing the stylistic features of contemporary publications is essential for the advanced study of a foreign language, in particular, for identifying and comprehending the implicit meanings of texts, as well as applying relevant rhetorical devices in professional writing appropriately in order to achieve pragmatic communication goals. The findings of this study have important implications for educators in English for Academic Purposes and early-career academics, aiming to publish their research in international journals, aspiring to enhance visibility and maximize the impact of their articles within the scientific community.

Colloquial words and expressions in professional environment
(Українська медична стоматологічна академія, 2021) Athu, C.; Mihaila, R.; Botezat, O.
Language generally represents a means of communications in society, a complex reality that may be conceptualized in various ways as it is differently approached. Due to the current explosive development of science and technology to satisfy the multi-folded demands and desires of people worldwide as well as the increase of inter-cultural changes, many words belonging to the “terminological bank” have passed into the common literary or even colloquial vocabulary. When we speak about professionalisms we refer to the lexical units used in a definite trade, profession or calling by people connected by common interests both at work and at home.

Images and visuals in teaching vocabulary
(Українська медична стоматологічна академія, 2020) Botezat, O.
The aim of my paper is twofold. Firstly, to examine the use of different visual tools in teaching vocabulary and secondly, to disseminate the Erasmus+ funded Project VIR_TEACH: A VIRtual Solution for a comprehensive and coordinated training for foreign language TEACHers in Europe (Erasmus+ 2018-1-ES01-KA203-050045) that serves as a reliable model for the future training of language educators, using advanced digital techniques and a modern approach. With billions of users, Social Media has offered different channels for communicating for all kinds of purposes, professional and for passe-temps. Its friendly image-based interface reaches quickly the users, satisfying one of the most challenging goals of teaching, that of being part of the students’ news feed. With the multi-language, multi-culture and mixed and shifted populations, on one hand, and the continuous progress and development of software and media, on the other hand, teachers must be duly equipped to meet and answer all of those hurdles. Whether flashcards or short definitions, pictures, short videos, and other graphics are growing as important tools in teaching vocabulary and reaching both young and adult learners.
