It is determined that the pedagogical image cannot be set once and for all; it needs to be created and based on constant work on oneself. It begins with a motive and continues with the search and use of knowledge, activity and correction of one's image, and evaluation of work results. The article analyses the approaches of domestic and foreign scientists' approaches to studying the components of the teacher's image. Image is the result of conscious work. It is especially true when it is part of professional success. The personal image of a teacher is an important complement or a prerequisite for his or her effective work. Creating a professional image also arises from the needs of the market economy. The main components of the professional image of a teacher are substantiated and defined. It is confirmed that a positive professional image of a teacher is characterised by an individual style and success, combining the formation of internal personal and professional characteristics and their external manifestations in the performance of work functions. The critical components of improving the image are formed, including the professional skills of the teacher, his/ her ethical academic behaviour and communication skills. The formation of the pedagogical image goes through 5 stages: it begins with the perception of the image; continues with the analysis of information and its mental correction; use, which is revealed through trying on and playing certain elements of the desired image and further getting into the image; and ends with the appropriation and individualisation of the chosen or desired image. It is the mechanism of forming a pedagogical image.
