    A stylistic analysis of medical article titles focused on the war in Ukraine. The Medical and Ecological Problems.

    The paper examines the rhetorical devices used in the metadata of medical research publications focused on the health implications of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The aim of the study is to analyse the stylistic means in article titles, through which the scientists aspire to convey their message to the audience, attract the readers’ attention, persuade and stimulate them to take specific actions. We selected 697 research papers from the PubMed database, published since 24 February 2022, using relevant search terms (“Ukraine”, “war”, “impacts”, and “health”), and examined them by applying the methods of stylistic, structural, and contextual analysis. The study detected 17 stylistic techniques (alliteration and assonance, allusion, anaphora, antithesis, ellipsis, idiom, metaphor, oxymoron, parallelism, paronomasia, periphrasis, personification, repetition, rhetorical questions, ecphonesis, and rhyming titles) that are used to highlight the numerous detrimental impacts of the war. The authors emphasize that analysing the stylistic features of contemporary publications is essential for the advanced study of a foreign language, in particular, for identifying and comprehending the implicit meanings of texts, as well as applying relevant rhetorical devices in professional writing appropriately in order to achieve pragmatic communication goals. The findings of this study have important implications for educators in English for Academic Purposes and early-career academics, aiming to publish their research in international journals, aspiring to enhance visibility and maximize the impact of their articles within the scientific community.

    Essay writing skills and their significance in medical and ecological education

    In medical and ecological education, developing and consequently refining essay writing skills is of paramount importance, as it enables students to articulate original ideas with clarity and critically evaluate complex issues. This paper aims to explore the significance of essay writing skills in medical education, and to examine how these contribute to the development of well-rounded and competent professionals in healthcare and environmental studies. The study delineates the major benefits of developing essay writing skills and identifies the key writing competencies that may be beneficial for various activities in healthcare and ecology. Finally, we explore diverse essay types, foregrounding 10 major subtypes, relevant to the professional areas under consideration. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the pivotal writing competencies that can enhance various aspects of healthcare and ecology. On a practical level, our study provides valuable insights for educators and institutions aiming to tailor writing curricula to the specific needs and challenges faced by healthcare professionals and ecologists. The paper provides guidelines for universities on the integration of essay writing skills into curricula, including the cultivation of critical thinking and analytical abilities, enhancement of communication and research skills, promotion of collaborative and interdisciplinary work, and integration of reflective practice. У статті обґрунтовано доцільність розвитку навичок написання академічного есе в медико-екологічній освіті. Авторами виокремлено ключові навички, удосконаленню яких варто приділяти особливу увагу під час англомовної підготовки здобувачів освіти. Наголошено, що опанування навичок написання академічного есе сприяє розвитку критичного мислення, рефлексивно-аналітичних здібностей, комунікативних і дослідницьких умінь, глибшому розумінню міждисциплінарних зв’язків та інтеграції здобутих знань, забезпечує чітке формулювання оригінальних ідей, усебічний аналіз складних питань у галузях охорони здоров’я та екології, а відтак – обґрунтоване прийняття рішень у майбутній професійній діяльності. Досліджено різні типи академічного есе, зокрема, розглянуто 10 основних підтипів, які є найбільш доцільними в медико-екологічній освіті. Авторами запропоновано методичні рекомендації щодо інтеграції навичок написання академічного есе в навчальні програми гуманітарного циклу з урахуванням конкретних потреб і вимог медико-екологічної освіти. Практичне значення результатів дослідження полягає в удосконаленні підходів до навчання з метою підготовки всебічно розвинених фахівців у галузях охорони здоров’я та екології.

    The Use of Versatext in Teaching English for Specific Purposes at Medical Universities.

    This article explores the integration of data-driven learning tools, as exemplified by Versa Text, into the process of teaching English for Specific Purposes in medical education. The study investigates the efficacy of Versa Text’s functions (Word Cloud, Concordance, and Profiler) in enhancing language acquisition and proficiency development among medical students. Through a series of classroom based activities and exercises, students engage with authentic medical texts, analyse linguistic patterns, and develop a deeper understanding of specialized medical terminology. This study discusses the benefits of integrating open-access materials sourced from PubMed and other databases with Versa Text's features, further enriching the learning experience by exposing students to real-world medical discourse. By incorporating such authentic materials, educators can enhance students' awareness of current research literature and reinforce their understanding of medical terminology within a contextually relevant framework. The pedagogical implications of using Versa Text in ESP teaching are discussed, highlighting its potential for fostering active engagement, collaborative learning, and critical thinking skills. Furthermore, the article emphasizes the need for ongoing research to further refine and expand the use of data-driven learning tools in ESP teaching methodologies. This study contributes to the growing body of literature on technology-enhanced language learning and provides valuable insights for educators seeking to optimize ESP instruction in various professional contexts.

    Інтерактивні технології навчання у вищій освіті як інструмент формування конкурентоспроможного фахівця

    Проаналізовано погляди вітчизняних і зарубіжних дослідників на інтерактивне навчання. Коротко схарактеризовано основні інтерактивні технології, поширені в освітній практиці. У висновках зазначається, що щонайширше використання інтерактивних технологій у навчальному процесі в медичних університетах ‒ необхідна умова підготовки конкурентоспроможних фахівців у галузі охорони здоров’я на додипломному та післядипломному етапах, а також у процесі подальшого безперервного професійного розвитку лікарів. Визначальною характеристикою інтерактивного навчання є творче, постійне й ефективне спілкування між суб’єктами освітнього процесу та наявність конструктивного зворотного зв’язку між ними. Основні переваги інтерактивного навчання полягають у можливості: нівелювати протиріччя між мотивацією та стимуляцією в процесі навчання, статичним і динамічним навчанням; формувати в майбутніх лікарів усвідомлення важливості й цінності різних видів спілкування; моделювати професійні ситуації при розв’язанні яких студенти демонструють набуті знання, уміння і навички в невимушеній, психологічно комфортній атмосфері, що спонукає їх до активної участі на всіх етапах інтерактивного заняття; розв’язувати реальні кейси з медичної / стоматологічної практики; впроваджувати формувальне (формативне) оцінювання; регулювати міжсуб’єктні взаємини в навчальному процесі; формувати в осіб, що навчаються, клінічне мислення, уміння обґрунтовувати власну думку та здатність відстоювати власну позицію, критично оцінювати прийняті та пропонувати альтернативні рішення, навички командної діяльності, комунікативну культуру, позитивну мотивацію, упевненість у собі.
