A major contributing factor is that the pre-existing morbidity in these children is almost always burdened by comorbid conditions, which tend to progress with age and necessitate the prompt correction of the defect. In turn, congenital anomalies often lead to the development of general somatic disorders. To prevent postoperative complications in this category of patients, thorough preoperative preparation, including the necessary additional investigations, is crucial. Since the patients are children, these diagnostic methods should be as minimally invasive and as informative as possible. Therefore, electroacupuncture according to R. Voll remains relevant, significantly expanding and complementing the range of diagnostic measures available.
