The «Emergency Medicine» subject is studied by the second-year dental students at higher medical educational institutions of Ukraine. The curriculum includes the essentials of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in organizing and conducting of medical-evacuation activities, as well as provision of the first aid in emergency situations of natural, technological and social-political origin and is based on the of students’ competence in human anatomy and physiology, surgery and patient care, laying the foundations for studying the field surgery, therapy, epidemiology, army dentistry and others. Army dentistry is a separate discipline within the Emergency Medicine, aiming at study of organization and provision of all types of dental care to the wounded, injured 18 and sick in warfare and peacetime. Statistics of the past decades shows that injuries with localization of the wounds in the maxillofacial area account for 4-7% of the total number of casualty. It should be noted that self-care among injured to the maxillofacial area, even in relatively slight injuries, is rarely feasible due to the difficulty of determining the location and severity of injury, as well as inconvenient conditions, and sometimes due to complete inability to apply the dressing onto the face by the injured himself/herself. Such injuries are often combined with brain injury, eyeballs and ENT-organs injuries. At the same time possible discrepancy between the appearance of the injured and the severity of injuries can be evident due to facial deterioration, hemorrhages, lumps of mud, blood clots, loss of consciousness in the injured. All these can affect the timing and scope of the first medical care, medical assistance, skilled and specialized assistance, provided to the injured in the facial area. Surprisingly, the «Emergency Medicine » curriculums and syllabuses are almost the same for medical and dental students, whereas, currently, the timely acquisition of practical skills by dental students in provision of medical care to injure in the facial area is crucial. It is ecommended to introduce into «Emergency Medicine» curriculums and syllabuses, studied by dental students, first and foremost, the issues of peculiarities of bleeding arrest in face injuries; clinical course and treatment of upper and lower jaws’ fractures and transport immobilization for such injured; clinical course and emergency in thermal, radiation, chemical and combined lesions of the maxillofacial area. Conclusion. Taking into consideration the abovementioned, specialization of «Emergency Medicine» curriculums for dental faculties at higher medical educational institutions of Ukraine could facilitate significant enhancement of the quality of practical skills mastering, and provide the students with enough time to acquire psychological readiness for professional work in the emergent warfare.
