The usage of quick response codes: evolution and integration in classroom activities in the context of language learning

Abstract

The aim of this research is the exploration of the appearance, development, evolution of the Quick Response (QR-codes) and the feasibility of their using in the context of modern education. The authors of this article have shown that QR-codes can be interpreted as specific codes that are quickly readable by smartphones. QR-codes allow connection of real objects with any additional web content. Scanning QR-codes conveys a wide multitude of information, in particular educational materials. The paper emphasizes that оver the past years QR-codes have a wide range of uses across all types of industries and other spheres, specifically retail, marketing, advertising and logistics, etc. The authors have shown that the use of QR-codes in the field of education can be interesting and accessible in the context of the relevance of learning with the using of modern devices, and mobile learning. The research shows that the implementation of the modern technologies can contribute to the learning visible outcomes. The research presents the prerequisites and algorithm for the successful and methodically motivated use of QR-codes in education, especially language learning. It is noted that QR-codes make it possible to combine educational material with additional web content, traditional learning environment with virtual. The attention is paid to technical means that provide access to encoded educational information. It is noted that students must have special smartphones, cameras and a corresponding mobile application downloaded to the phone to for the successful using of QR-codes. Technical component contributes to the successful completing of assignments with QR-codes. In this context, applications that allow the combination of digital and physical information in real time through the use of mobile devices have special relevance. The technical characteristics of this tool in education can get extra motivation in students, since it involves a game in a natural format for them. In addition, the article presents the results of an experiment conducted to clarify the purposes and areas of use of QR-codes, using them to access educational content;

Мета праці – детальне вивчення й опис появи, розвитку й еволюції багатомірних кодів (QR-кодів), а також аналіз доцільності їх використання в контексті сучасної освітньої парадигми. Автори цієї статті дослідили й інтерпретували QR-коди специфічними кодами, сканування яких дає можливість безперешкодно й оперативно отримати / передати значну кількість інформації. У праці детально описано історію появи багатовимірних кодів, проаналізовано їхню еволюцію, модифікації, а також акцентовано на тому, що QR-коди мають широкий спектр застосування у всіх галузях промисловості та інших сферах, зокрема в роздрібній торгівлі, маркетингу, рекламі, логістиці тощо. У цій праці здійснено спробу описати й проаналізувати історію появи й перетворення QR-кодів на потужний навчальний інструмент. Автори доводять, що використання QR-кодів в освітній галузі може бути цікавим і доступним в контексті актуальності навчання із залученням сучасних девайсів – мобільного навчання. При цьому мета викладача – раціональне й умотивоване послуговування QR-кодами. У розвідці представлено передумови й алгоритм успішного й методично вмотивованого застосування QR-кодів в освіті, передовсім мовній. Зауважено про те, що QR-коди дають можливість поєднати навчальний матеріал з додатковим вебконтентом, традиційне навчальне середовище з віртуальним. Приділено увагу технічним засобам, які здатні вповні забезпечити здобувачів освіти доступом до закодованої навчальної інформації. У праці зауважено, що для успішного використання QR-кодів здобувачі освіти повинні мати спеціальні смартфони, камери й відповідний мобільний додаток, завантажений в телефон. Це посприяє безперешкодному й успішному виконанню завдань із QR-кодами. У цьому контексті використання мобільних додатків, які забезпечують повсякчасний доступ до потрібної навчальної інформації, актуальне й нагальне. Технічні характеристики таких девайсів і програм, а також використання мультимедійних засобів можуть мотивувати здобувачів освіти навчатися. Крім цього, у статті подано результати експерименту, проведеного з метою з’ясування цілей і сфер використання QR-кодів, послуговування ними для доступу до навчального контенту.
